New Year's Turnaround

Long Now ClockHi everyone! Chemb0t here again.

I hope you all had a great holiday break! Mine didn't go exactly as planned, but it was interesting and productive nonetheless. I originally planned to spend Christmas and new years in Asia, both to escape the cold and pay a visit to a cousin who was incidentally getting married. Unfortunately flights were too full in December, and getting back in time for work again would be risky even if I did make a flight, so instead I spent my break reconnecting with some local, yet not seen in a long while relatives of mine.

As usual, the phenomena of being terribly busy even when you're technically free kept my online activities at bay. I could almost declare it as a physical law; The amount of 'holiday' time given to you with relatives visiting is inversely proportional to the amount of time you have to yourself. XD

google-spider1Anyway, it is the new year, I've returned to work and a normal routine, which means I finally have a decent amount of free time to dedicate toward personal projects and online activity. TG is in much need of some activity so I will do my best to help get more things going.

To start, I've already implemented a much needed plugin which converts our long and unreadable urls into nice, search engine friendly ones. This will allow aggregators like google to better find and display the pages on our site, as well as our forums. It will let TG to show up in more searches, and hopefully attract more traffic as a result. So next time you see our spider bots crawling around the forum, say hi (just don't pet them. They might bite. =P).

Aside from that, I'm hoping to follow up with those that responded to our staffing call soon. I've discussed this with some active staff previously and I think we're about ready to make it official and get some of you guys going on new assignments.

That said, thanks once again to everyone past and present who has been keeping TG the awesome and peaceful community that it is. In spite of some quiet spells, we made a decent amount of progress last year, and I'm hoping to make even more as we start fresh in 2011! *bows respectfully* =]

p.s. in case anyone is wondering, the first picture is the face of the 10,000 Year Clock currently being prototyped by the Long Now Foundation here in San Francisco. This thing will still be ticking far after we're all gone. If only we could use that approach to build a community, eh? ;]
