Introduction

TGcard"You sat there on the park bench, dejected after the latest in a series of personal crises. And while your friend sat next to you, with concern in her eyes, you poured out your soul to her and lamented what you had lost. "How can I go on?" you asked. "What's the point of it all?"

She sat there quietly, with a look of sorrow and compassion. "I don't know what to tell you," she said. "But if you need any help, you can call me." And she dug in her pocket for a business card, which she placed in your hand before walking away.

You went on feeling sorry for yourself, for a while. Then you looked down at the card. It did not have her name and address on it. Instead, it had a logo of some kind, circles-in-circles like gears, glowing and spinning around each other. It moved as you looked at it, and the image had depth, like a hologram.

You stared at it, mesmerized, wondering how it could do that. Then you looked at the other side, where a single phone number was printed.

When you got home, you called that number. And your world was changed forever.

Later that year, standing on the deck of the Sky Base of Avalon, you pledged your allegiance to the Technoguild charter -- to help other people from behind the scenes, so that they had free will to choose what was Right. To advance knowledge and understanding, in the pursuit of Truth. And to do what was needed even when it was hard, so that the world would know Justice.

You thought back on your old, petty concerns, and wondered what those you once knew would have thought. Would they have supported your decision to join the Guild? Would they have believed in you, that you were capable of something better? Or would they have laughed at your naivete, your idealism? At the very idea that Good can exist in the world?

You stood there on the deck, surrounded by hundreds of other agents; the late evening sunlight glinting off blue steel and glass, as the Guild's Oracle finished his speech. There were tears in your eyes as you applauded, along with the others, while hovering cameras broadcasted to bases around the globe and beyond. And you knew that whatever your old friends' opinions of you, it wouldn't matter. Because you had a purpose now.

But you'd find out what they thought soon enough ...

... because tomorrow, you're being sent back into the world. This time, as a TechnoAgent."

Welcome to the Guild

In order to reflect our goals of creating fictional concepts, the community has been designed around a fictional universe that, as you shall soon see, is compatible with almost any type of storyline or concept one can conceive. Members are encouraged to create a character to represent them and interact with others. The community is mainly anthro themed but all forms of characters, whether it is human, robot, alien, or otherwise, are completely acceptable.

What is the Technoguild in our fictional Universe?

The Technoguild is a secret, multi-dimensional organization that monitors, develops and protects technology and the civilizations that make use of it.

Functions/Purpose

Through its vast network of agents, the guild secretly leaks and protects new technology and discoveries into the populace. This is done in the effort to bring out the greatest potential in a civilization, as well as protect against catastrophic misuse of technology.

They constantly monitor and document the activity of civilization, treating the worlds as what one can consider as a grand experiment. If something threatens to jeopardize the safety of the worlds, such as a world war or invasion, the guild will reveal its agents to aid and guide those in need of help.

Goals

On a large scale, the guild is a concentrated scientific and philosophical effort. They seek to uncover the true nature and structure of the universe, it's principles and all encompassing presence while upholding the virtues of peace and order through the gradual advancement of knowledge and understanding.

Methods

Technology in the broadest sense is the ability to understand and adapt something so that you may use it to your advantage. Throughout the ages, the guild has used this "technology" to achieve its goals. From archaic aether manipulation and alchemy to bleeding edge science and engineering, the guild has used this advantage to collect knowledge, protect civilization and encourage progress as a whole.

At the same time, the guild has chosen to remain integrated yet mostly hidden from the civilizations it interacts with. Direct influence or control lends to high risk of corruption and abuse of power, which ultimately leads too greater disorder. Therefore the guild believes that it must instead influence through persuasion and advice rather than force and domination so that civilization may change on its own accord.

Structure

The guild spans across nearly all 11 dimensions of the planet (Ten spatial dimensions plus time according to string theory). For the sake of simplicity, we will focus on one dimension and open up more positions as the community grows. Each dimension is assigned 7 Arbiters who are charged with running all guild operations.  They have come to be commonly known as the planetary council or high council. Each of these arbiters specializes in a certain aspect of science.

One for each of the three major branches of science:

Physics – The science of matter and energy and their interactions. Technology such as dimensional travel, antigravity and teleportation come from here.

Chemistry – The science of matter. Technology such as high explosives, nano-armor, and energy capsules come from here

Biology - The science of life. Technology such as genetic engineering, Organism scans and bio-enhancements come from here.

One for each of the intermediate sciences:

Biophysics – Martial arts programming, melee weapons, telekinetics, metaphysics

Biochemistry – Advanced medicine, accelerated healing, Bio-weapons

Chemical physics – Matter converters, advanced power sources, replicators

The 7th arbiter acts as the “oracle” which compiles and collaborates the discoveries of the other 6 arbiters and their teams. He or she is also in charge of communicating with the other councils that are situated in other dimensions.

Base Faclilties

In each dimension, seven laboratories or research centers are established to serve as central bases for all technoagents. The bases are hidden in different environments on the planet. Environments include Underwater, Jungle, Urban, Polar ice caps, Mountain ranges, Sky and Moon. The bases are each run by one of the arbiters and are designed to suit their specific field of expertise.
